Watsonville, CA - The Fair continues to reduce its impact on local landfills by adding composting to a strong recycling effort. Visitors to the fair will find a well marked choice when they head to the trash can areas. There is now a composting option. Food scraps and compostable plates, cups and service ware collected in these new receptacles will be taken and turned into soil amendment and garden mulch.
Fair manager Michael Bethke worked with the Santa Cruz County Department of Public Works and Compost Santa Cruz to implement the program during this year’s Fair. So enjoy your favorite Fair food and know you are not “Trashing the Planet.” More information on the benefits of composting is available at http://www.compostsantacruzcounty.org/
